I cannot believe how cold it has become. Having left the sunny climes of Cornwall yesterday, to return to 13C here in Coulsdon. Back to winter weight clothing. I have been doing all the usual post holiday chores, unpacking, washing and the like. But interrupted by an unfortunate incident, my daughter’s partner had a cycleContinue reading “Saturday 19 June”

Friday 18 June
It was tidying up and packing away time, always much quicker when you’re leaving as you simply sweep everything up into the cases and load the car. But I just had to go to the baker’s and buy a Cornish pasty for the journey home. Before we left, we visited the church of St OlavContinue reading “Friday 18 June”
Thursday 17 June
We have been in the habit of writing limericks for the places we have visited, so here is the current offering: There was a young lady of Bude Who wanted to swim in the nude. So she went to the pool Which was terribly cool And the people said, “Don’t be so rude!” Today weContinue reading “Thursday 17 June”
Wednesday 16 June
Today it was time to catch up with some history, as well as scenery. We visited Tintagel Castle, or rather, the romantic ruins. Since Tennyson’s poem Morte D’Arthur, Tintagel has been associated with the adventures of King Arthur, and so there is the Camelot Castle Hotel, the Sword in the Stone car park and theContinue reading “Wednesday 16 June”
Tuesday 15 June
It was yet another unbelievably warm day. No sea fret visible. Back on the bus to Crackington Haven, to walk to Boscastle. The signpost said, 6 miles along the coastal path, so we thought, ah, a shorter easier day. But of course it was not quite like that because these are Cornish miles, which everyoneContinue reading “Tuesday 15 June”
Monday 14 June
Some notable achievements today. The first was being able to use my bus pass before 9.00 which in many areas outside of London you cannot. We took the bus from Bude to Crackington Haven, a small village which has the reputation of being a geology student’s delight. Unusual rocks are exposed, the Crackington formation. TheContinue reading “Monday 14 June”
Sunday 13 June
Another wonderful warm sunny day. We drove to Morwenstow, named after St Morwenna, which is a Welsh name meaning maiden. We looked at the church from the outside, but could not go in as there was a service taking place. We could hear music being played on the harmonium, but no singing, as this isContinue reading “Sunday 13 June”
Saturday 12 June
So today I set off on my hols. A walking holiday postponed from last year. Barbara and I set off about 8.15 to drive to Bude, north Cornwall. I was afraid that the traffic might be dreadful, with everyone heading for the coast on a sunny Saturday but in fact, it was not too bad.Continue reading “Saturday 12 June”
Friday 11 June
The first excitement of the day was that the cat found a mouse. I have never known her catch anything before, and this did not last long as the mouse scurried behind a plant pot. The cat then lay in wait for hours, till she nodded off in boredom. We have all our meals outsideContinue reading “Friday 11 June”
Thursday 10 June
The sun was shining, I was up early…………….so a rapid trip to Tesco’s. Always worth it, as there are so few people there and I can get round really quickly. I think they are very affected by the Aldi store which is cheaper for many products. But they don’t sell petrol, and Tesco does, cheaply.Continue reading “Thursday 10 June”
